A crypto wallet sign-up bonus sounds like an exchange bonus, but it rarely works like one. Exchanges earn money every time you trade, so they can afford to hand new users fee vouchers and kickbacks. A wallet maker earns money in very different ways. Hardware brands earn once, when you buy the device. Software wallets earn small swap and trading fees, or they earn nothing directly and run campaigns to keep you active. The referral programs follow the money, and that is why a hardware wallet discount code cuts the price of an order, while a wallet referral code in a mobile app usually pays you back slowly, in fee rebates, gas credits or points.
This hub compares the wallet programs we have reviewed, side by side, using the same numbers you see in each review. The table above lists every program in the category. Below we explain how the two families differ, which codes are worth the effort, which ones are not, and the traps that come up again and again when people search for “free” wallet offers.
Two kinds of wallet offers
Think of wallets in two groups. The first group is hardware wallets: Ledger, Trezor, Tangem and ELLIPAL. You buy a physical device that keeps your keys offline. A referral code or link here behaves like a shop coupon. It either takes a percentage off the order or gives you a small gift afterwards. It is a one-time saving, and once the device is paid for, the referral has done its job.
The second group is software wallets: MetaMask, Phantom and Bitget Wallet. You install them for free. They earn money from in-app swaps, perps trading, bridging and card spending. A referral code here does not reduce a price, because there is no price. Instead, it may return part of the fees you pay, credit you a small amount of gas, or give you points in a campaign. Some programs give the invited user almost nothing and pay mostly the inviter.
The important habit for both groups is the same: look at what you receive, not at the headline number. Many wallet referral pages describe the inviter’s commission, which sounds generous but does not reach your pocket.
Hardware wallet discount codes compared
Here are the hardware wallet offers in plain numbers, taken from our individual reviews.
| Brand | What you get | What the referrer gets | Main catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tangem | 10% off, 30% via link | 5–10 USDT per sale | Extra 20% only via the link |
| Trezor | 10% off orders of $49+ | $20 shop voucher | No stacking with sales |
| Ledger | $5–$20 BTC gift card | Same BTC amount | Full-price orders only |
| ELLIPAL | Store sales of about 15% | No friend program | Code values not published |
The numbers reward a closer look. Tangem’s typed code gives 10%, which on a $69.90 three-card set is $6.99. The referral link that adds the SEEDLESS code raises that to 30%, or $20.97, which is the largest saving in the category. The detail that trips people up is that the extra 20% works only when you open the link. Typing the code by hand gives you the basic 10%.
Trezor is simple and predictable. A referral link takes 10% off your first Trezor Shop order of $49 or more, which every current Safe model clears. That is about $5.90 on a Safe 3, $12.90 on a Safe 5 and $24.90 on a Safe 7. The person who invited you gets a $20 shop voucher, not cash.
Ledger is the odd one out. Its program gives no money off at checkout. You pay full price and later receive a BTC gift card worth $5 on a Nano S Plus or Nano X, $10 on a Nano Gen5 and $20 on a Flex or Stax. The inviter receives the same amount. Because Ledger’s gift is paid in Bitcoin to an address you choose, it is one of the few wallet rewards that is genuinely withdrawable, but it only applies to full-price orders that you keep for 30 days.
ELLIPAL has no customer referral program at all. Creator codes exist, but ELLIPAL does not publish their value, and its own storewide sales of about 15% are usually the better deal.
Software wallet referral codes: rebates, gas and points
Software wallets cannot discount a price, so they reward activity instead. Here is how the three programs we reviewed compare.
| Wallet | What you get | What the referrer gets | Is it cash? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phantom | 10% of fees back for 3 months | 25% of Phantom’s net fees | Yes, paid as CASH |
| Bitget Wallet | Up to 5 GASU gas credits | Earning and card commissions | Gas credit only |
| MetaMask | Campaign points, if any | Campaign points | No |
Phantom offers the cleanest deal for the invited user. A code entered in the mobile app gives you a 10% fee rebateA rebate is part of the fee you paid that is credited back to you after the trade, rather than a lower fee shown up front. on eligible swaps, perps and predictions for three months, paid into your Phantom Cash balance once you pass a $1 minimum. It is real money, but it is small: roughly $4 a month on $5,000 of swaps.
Bitget Wallet gives new users up to 5 GASU, which are gasGas is the network fee you pay to process a blockchain transaction. A gas credit pays that fee for you, but cannot be withdrawn as money. credits. They can cover a few transactions, nothing more. The inviter side is far richer: 10% of a friend’s Earning Center rewards for six months, plus commissions when friends activate and use the Bitget Wallet Card.
MetaMask has no fixed sign-up bonus. Its Rewards program in MetaMask Mobile runs in campaigns. In its first season, new members received 250 points, plus 250 more with a referral code. The 0.875% swap fee stays the same with or without a code, and points are not cash.
How to choose the right wallet offer
Start with the wallet you actually want, not with the bonus. A wallet is where your savings live, so choosing one for a $5 gift is backwards. Once you know which wallet suits you, the referral question becomes easy.
If you are buying a hardware wallet, the order of value is clear. Tangem’s link offers the largest percentage, Trezor’s flat 10% is reliable on any order over $49, and Ledger’s gift card is worth roughly 5–8% of the list price depending on the model. For an expensive Ledger Flex or Stax, the $20 BTC gift is respectable. For a Nano S Plus, $5 is a token gesture, and a seasonal sale will beat it easily.
If you are setting up a software wallet, ask how much you will trade inside it. A Phantom code is worth entering if you plan to swap or trade perps during the first three months, because the 10% rebate applies automatically. If you only want to hold tokens, none of the software wallet codes will change much. MetaMask points matter only if you join campaigns, and Bitget Wallet’s gas credits run out after a handful of transactions.
There is also a beginner shortcut. If you are new to self-custody and still buying crypto on an exchange, the bigger welcome rewards usually live on the exchange side. Our exchange referral codes hub compares those, and the crypto card hub covers wallets that come with a spending card.
Traps: fake wallet bonuses and seed phrase phishing
The wallet category attracts more scams than any other, because a single mistake gives a thief full control of your funds. Real wallet referral programs share three traits. They are entered at checkout or inside the official app. They never ask for your recovery phrase. And they never ask you to sign a transaction that approves spending of your tokens.
Watch for inflated percentages too. Sites that advertise 40% or 50% off Trezor, or “free Ledger devices”, are not backed by anything on the brands’ own pages. Hardware brands also warn against buying from unofficial resellers, because a tampered device can be pre-loaded with a known seed. Use the brand’s own store, then apply the code there. Our guide to fake crypto bonuses covers more of these patterns, including “airdrop claim” pages that drain wallets.
Finally, remember that a referral reward is rarely the reason to choose a self-custody wallet. Security model, supported networks, backup method and recovery options matter far more. A Tangem card, a Trezor with a screen and a Ledger with Bluetooth each solve different problems. The code is just the cherry on top.
When and how to apply a wallet code
Timing matters more than most people expect. Hardware wallet codes and links work at checkout, so you have to open the link or type the code before you pay. Tangem’s larger discount requires the link, and Ledger tracks the referral through its link before the order. If you place the order first, there is no way to add the code afterwards.
Software wallet codes work at setup. Phantom asks for the code during sign-up in the mobile app, and MetaMask asks when you opt in to Rewards in MetaMask Mobile. Bitget Wallet links the code when you create the wallet. If you already created your wallet months ago, check whether the app still offers a field for a code; in most cases it does not. Our step-by-step guide on how to use a referral code explains the general rules for every type of platform.
One last practical note on taxes. A discount on a device is simply a lower price. A BTC gift card from Ledger, or a CASH rebate from Phantom, is a crypto receipt, and some countries treat it as income. If you collect several of these, a quick look at how tax offices view crypto referral rewards will save you surprises later.
