Crypto Tax Software Discount Codes and Referral Offers

Tax tools are one of the few crypto products where a discount code is plain money off a price. The amounts range from 10% to 20%, and the bigger saving often comes from picking the right plan size. Here is how the main offers compare and where the fine print hides.

Most crypto bonuses are vouchers, credits or points with conditions attached. A crypto tax software discount code is refreshingly plain: it takes a percentage off a price you were going to pay. If you need a tax report, there is no catch in using one. The catches are elsewhere: in renewal pricing, in plan tiers based on transaction counts, and in the fact that only one discount ever applies.

This hub compares the three tax tools we have reviewed, Koinly, CoinTracker and CoinLedger, and shows how to cut the total cost of your tax report by more than any code alone. The table above is generated from our reviews, so the figures here match.

How crypto tax software is priced

All three tools follow a similar pattern. You can import your exchange and wallet history for free, see a preview of gains or a portfolio view, and then pay to download official tax reports. The price depends on the number of transactionsEach buy, sell, swap, transfer, staking reward or airdrop counts as a transaction. Tax tools set plan limits by how many of these you import in a tax year. in the year. A few hundred trades fits an entry plan; a year of active trading, DeFi or bots can push you into a plan costing several hundred dollars.

The billing model differs. Koinly charges a one-time payment per tax year. CoinTracker sells a subscription that renews automatically. CoinLedger sells DIY tax reports per year and offers separate Done For You services. These details decide how much a code is really worth.

CoinTracker’s offer is the clearest discount in the category. New customers who sign up through a referral link get 20% off their first paid plan, worth $11.80 on the Base plan and $99.80 on Ultra. The catch is that this is a first-year discount on an auto-renewing subscriptionA subscription that charges your card again at the end of each period unless you switch it off. Discounts on the first period usually do not carry over.. If you only need one tax season, turn off auto-renewal after you buy.

CoinLedger’s 10% is applied automatically at checkout for users who sign up through a referral link. On the $99 Investor report that is $9.90, more if you buy reports for several years. The discount cannot be used on Done For You services, and purchases made more than 15 days after the first click are not tracked.

Koinly’s referral gives the new user account credit when they buy a first plan, with the amount shown on Koinly’s in-app Refer a friend page. Koinly also runs seasonal promo codes and partner deals with exchanges such as Kraken, Nexo, Revolut, Swyftx and NDAX, each with its own percentage. Those partner deals are often larger than any coupon.

The bigger saving: pick the right plan size

The single best way to save on crypto tax software is to avoid buying a larger plan than you need. Duplicate imports, internal transfers counted as trades and spam tokens all inflate your transaction count. Clean your data on the free plan first. Merge duplicate wallets, mark transfers between your own accounts and hide airdropped spam. It is common for a messy import to drop a tier after cleanup, which saves far more than a 10% or 20% code.

Here is a simple example. Suppose a messy import puts you on a plan that costs twice as much as the tier below. Cleaning your data drops you one tier, which saves half the price. A 20% code on top of the smaller plan then saves a little more. Doing it the other way round, applying a code to the inflated plan, still leaves you paying far more than necessary.

Who should use which tool

Each tool suits slightly different users, and the right choice depends more on your country and activity than on the discount.

Koinly is used in more than 140 countries and supports many local tax reports. Its one-time payment per tax year suits people who file once and do not want a subscription. CoinTracker supports tax reporting for over 40 countries with checkout in local currency, and its portfolio tracking makes sense if you want a year-round view. CoinLedger focuses on US tax forms plus international reports, with prices in USD, and suits US filers who want a simple per-year report.

If you trade on many exchanges and DeFi protocols, test the import on each tool’s free plan before paying. The tool that recognises your wallets and exchanges cleanly will save you hours, which matters more than a discount of a few dollars.

Referral rewards are taxable too

There is an irony worth noting. If you earned crypto from referral programs, sign-up bonuses or fee rebates, many tax offices treat those receipts as income. Your tax software needs to know about them. Most tools let you tag incoming transactions as rewards or income, which then shows up in the right part of the report. Our guide to crypto referral rewards and tax explains how the US, UK, Germany, Australia and India approach them.

The same applies to rewards from other categories. A BTC gift card from a hardware wallet referral, NEXO Tokens from a lending referral, or USDT commissions from a card program are all crypto receipts. Importing them correctly keeps your report accurate and your transaction count honest.

Referrer side and fine print

If you plan to recommend a tax tool to friends, the referrer rewards differ. CoinTracker pays 20% of the friend’s first-year subscription, capped at $500 per referral, in cash via PayPal or Venmo 30 days after the purchase. CoinLedger pays a 25% recurring commission on every DIY report the referred user buys, each year they file, via PayPal from $30. Koinly gives the referrer account credit that only offsets future Koinly purchases, while its separate affiliate program pays 20% commission.

Common fine print across all three: the discount applies only to new accounts created through the link, cookies must be enabled when you click it, and self-referrals are not allowed. You cannot add a referral to an existing account. Our guide on how to use a referral code covers these tracking rules in more detail.

Avoid fake tax tool deals

Tax season brings a wave of “70% off” codes and lookalike sites. A real discount appears at checkout on the tool’s own domain before you pay. If a site asks you to pay through a link that does not lead to the official checkout, or promises a lifetime discount, close it. Never upload exchange API keys with withdrawal rights to any tax tool; read-only keys are all a tax import needs. Our guide to fake crypto bonuses lists other patterns to watch for.

Frequently asked questions

Which crypto tax software has the biggest discount code?
Among the tools we reviewed, CoinTracker's referral link gives the largest fixed percentage: 20% off the first paid plan, worth $11.80 on Base and $99.80 on Ultra. CoinLedger gives 10% off DIY tax reports. Koinly gives account credit through referrals, and its exchange partner deals often beat any coupon.
Does a crypto tax software discount apply every year?
Usually not. CoinTracker's 20% covers the first year and renewals are charged at the regular price. Koinly plans are a one-time payment per tax year, so a code saves on one year. CoinLedger's 10% applies to DIY reports bought through the referral link.
Can I combine a crypto tax software promo code with another discount?
No, in the cases we checked. CoinTracker promos cannot be combined, and Koinly discounts, including partner deals, cannot be stacked. CoinLedger's discount does not apply to its Done For You services. Pick the single largest offer available to you.
Can I try crypto tax software for free before using a discount code?
Yes. CoinLedger has a free plan for importing data and viewing net gains, CoinTracker's free plan tracks your portfolio and previews your taxes, and Koinly lets you import data before buying a plan. Clean up your transactions first, then buy the smallest plan that covers your transaction count.
Do crypto tax tools pay referral commissions?
Yes. CoinTracker pays the referrer 20% of a friend's first-year subscription, up to $500 per referral, via PayPal or Venmo. CoinLedger pays 25% recurring commission on DIY reports via PayPal. Koinly gives the referrer account credit, while its affiliates earn 20% commission.
Is the cost of crypto tax software tax-deductible?
That depends on your country and your situation. In some places, costs of preparing a tax return or managing investments can be deducted; in others they cannot. Ask a local tax adviser rather than relying on a software vendor's marketing.
