MetaMask Referral Code: Points, Campaigns and the Fine Print

Search for a MetaMask referral code and you will find dozens of pages promising “free ETH”, “MASK airdrop access” or a “20% fee discount”. None of that matches what MetaMask actually runs. The real MetaMask referral code belongs to MetaMask Rewards, an opt-in loyalty program inside MetaMask Mobile. It gives no fee discount, no cash and no deposit match. It can earn points or campaign perks, and what those are depends on which campaign is live when you join.

This page explains how the program works, what the referral code earned during Season 1, what it does now that MetaMask has moved to campaigns, and where the fake “code” sites really lead.

What the MetaMask referral code is, and what it is not

MetaMask is a self-custody walletA wallet where only you hold the keys. No company can freeze or move your funds, and nobody signs you up or verifies your identity.. You do not register an account with MetaMask the way you would with an exchange, so there is no sign-up form where a classic referral code could attach. Instead, MetaMask built a separate layer on top of the wallet: MetaMask Rewards.

You join Rewards in the mobile app by opening the Rewards tab and opting in. That creates a Rewards profile, and every profile gets its own referral code and link, shown in the top right corner of the tab. When someone else joins Rewards with your code, the referral is recorded against your profile. Several wallet accounts can be linked to one profile, which also means one person cannot reuse a single referral by adding more addresses.

The help center puts it plainly: the bonus you get from referrals varies by campaign. That one sentence is the whole story. A MetaMask code has no fixed value of its own.

Season 1: what the code was worth while points existed

Most third-party pages still describe Season 1, the points season that launched with a pool of more than $30 million in LINEA tokens. Points came from swaps and perps trades in MetaMask Mobile or the extension, and higher point totals earned a bigger share of LINEA.

The referral rules during Season 1 were simple and public:

A worked example shows the scale. If a friend you referred earned 5,000 points from trading, you received 1,000 points. Those points had no fixed dollar value; they translated into LINEA only at the end of the season, at a token price nobody could predict when the trades were made. MetaMask’s own disclaimer called the payout an estimate based on projected activity and the current token price.

Season 1 has ended. The help center says end-of-season rewards had a redemption deadline and that there are no concrete plans for future seasons. If a site tells you a code still earns “500 points toward the MetaMask airdrop”, it is describing a program that no longer runs.

How MetaMask Rewards works now: campaigns

Today MetaMask Rewards is organised around campaigns: one-off incentives with their own timeline, eligible regions, qualifying actions and prize pools. You opt in to Rewards once, then opt in to each campaign separately. MetaMask says the rules shown in the app are the official source of truth.

Two recent examples from the help center show how different campaigns can be:

• Money Sweepstakes. A $100 mUSD deposit into the MetaMask Money Account earned a daily entry while the balance stayed at or above $100, up to seven entries per weekly draw. Each weekly pool started at a guaranteed $2,000 mUSD and could grow to $5,000 mUSD, split between two random winners, for up to $20,000 across four weeks. It excluded the UK and the US states of New York and Florida.
• Predict the Pitch. A prediction-market leaderboard powered by Polymarket. Users needed $10+ predictions across at least three markets, and the prize pool scaled from $10,000 to $75,000 in mUSD across 20 winners ranked by ROI.

Neither of those paid anything for referrals by default. When a campaign does include a referral element, the campaign page in the app shows what your code earns. When it does not, your code simply records the relationship and pays nothing.

The fees a code does not touch

Exchange referral codes usually earn their keep through a fee kickbackPart of your own trading fee returned to you. A 10% kickback on $10 of fees gives you $1 back.. MetaMask has none. These are the fees you pay with or without a code, as listed in the MetaMask help center:

Put numbers on it. Swapping $10,000 a month costs $87.50 in MetaMask fees before gas. A 10% kickback, the kind exchanges like Binance offer, would return $8.75 a month. MetaMask returns nothing through referrals. If fees matter to you, the honest comparison is with lower-fee venues, not between MetaMask codes. MetaMask perps run on Hyperliquid, which has its own Hyperliquid referral program with a 4% fee discount and a lower base fee schedule when you trade there directly.

Fake MetaMask referral codes and seed-phrase phishing

This is the part that matters most. “MetaMask referral code” and “MetaMask airdrop” are favourite search terms for scammers, because people looking for a bonus are already primed to connect a wallet or type in details. The common patterns:

• A “claim your MetaMask referral bonus” page that asks you to enter or import your Secret Recovery Phrase. Anyone who sees those 12 words controls the wallet. MetaMask’s help center states that it will never ask you to verify your account or share your phrase.
• A fake MASK token claim. MetaMask’s help center says there are no plans for a MASK token at this time, and that Rewards is a different thing.
• A “connect wallet to activate your code” site that asks you to sign a transaction or token approval. One signature can hand a drainer contract permission to move your tokens.
• Fake support accounts on social media that DM you after you comment about a missing bonus.

Who can use MetaMask Rewards

MetaMask is a wallet, so there is no KYC to install it, create accounts or opt in to Rewards. Restrictions come from the program terms and from individual campaigns:

• UK residents cannot take part in MetaMask Rewards at all, according to the Consensys terms.
• Perps are not offered in the USA, the UK, Ontario (Canada), Belgium or countries on the US sanctions list, so perps-based campaigns are closed there too.
• Campaign regions differ. The app tells you if you are in an ineligible region when you open a campaign.
• Hardware wallet accounts were listed as not yet supported on the Rewards page.

Prize winners may need to submit tax details, and Consensys withholds tax where the law requires. Rewards cannot be transferred or assigned, and the terms let Consensys decline or revoke rewards at any time, for example over attempts to game the program.

Rules for people sharing a MetaMask code

If you plan to share your own code, the terms are stricter than many exchange programs. You must tell people that you may earn an incentive when they sign up. You may not run paid ads that use “MetaMask” or “Consensys” to promote your link. You need consent before sending referral messages. Referrals are calculated per campaign, so a referral made during one campaign does not automatically earn in the next.

MetaMask vs other wallet referral programs

Is a MetaMask referral code worth using?

Use one only if three things are true. You already use MetaMask Mobile, you plan to take part in Rewards campaigns anyway, and the campaign that is live when you join actually rewards referrals. In that case it costs nothing to paste a code while opting in.

Do not choose MetaMask, or a code, for the bonus. There is no sign-up money, no fee discount and no guaranteed value, and the most famous version of the program, Season 1 points, has ended. The real value of knowing all this is defensive: once you understand that a MetaMask code is a small campaign perk, any site promising much more for your wallet connection or recovery phrase gives itself away.
