- Fee discount (kickback)A kickback is the share of your own trading fees the platform hands back to you, usually for as long as the account exists.
- None published. The standard program does not give the invited user an ongoing fee discount.
- Referrer reward

- KYCKnow Your Customer: identity verification with an ID document and often a selfie, required by regulated platforms before bonuses or withdrawals.
- Required for everyone. Unverified accounts cannot deposit, buy or trade; the automated check usually finishes within 5 minutes.

- Availability
- US via CEX.IO Corp (38 licensed states plus DC; New York restricted). Referral program suspended in the UK; services unavailable in Spain.
- How the bonus unlocksWhat you must do (deposit, trade a volume, hold funds) before the bonus becomes usable or withdrawable.
- Referrer needs Identity-level verification to get a link. Commission is credited automatically 30–45 days after each qualifying transaction, following a compliance review.
How to claim it, step by step
- Step 1
Open CEX.io through a referral link
CEX.io attributes referrals through a personal link and a 30-day cookie. Click the link first, then register in the same browser so the account is tied to the inviter.
- Step 2
Create the account and confirm your email
Sign up with your email address and a strong password, then turn on two-factor authentication in the security settings.
- Step 3
Pass identity verification
Upload a government ID and complete the selfie check. Without it you cannot deposit, buy or trade, and you cannot take part in any referral promo.
- Step 4
Make your first deposit
If a referral promo is running in your country, the qualifying action is usually a first fiat deposit of at least $100 through a supported payment channel. P2C transfers do not count.
- Step 5
Claim any promo reward in the Notification Center
Promo rewards show up as claimable in the in-app Notification Center and are credited to your CEX.IO Wallet once you claim them.
Search for a CEX.io referral code and you will find pages promising “1,000 USDC” or a “huge sign-up bonus”. None of that appears on CEX.io’s own referral pages. What CEX.io does publish is simpler and, for the right person, better: a referral and affiliate program that pays 30% of the fees your referrals pay, for as long as they keep trading. The program has been around for years, it covers the United States, and its rules sit openly on cex.io.
The catch is on the other side of the link. A new user who signs up through a CEX.io referral link does not get a permanent discount or a fixed welcome bonus. They benefit only when CEX.io runs one of its short referral promos, and those come with country lists and hard caps. This review covers both sides, with the official numbers and the places where CEX.io stays silent.
- 30%of your referrals' qualifying fees, paid to you for life
- 30 dayscookie window for attributing a sign-up to your link
- 30–45 dayscompliance review before each commission is credited
- 25–50 USDCper side in recent capped promos for new users
How the CEX.io referral program works
CEX.io does not use short invite codes the way Bybit or Binance do. Every verified user gets a personal referral link on the Referral page of their profile. When someone clicks it, a cookie remembers the visit for 30 days. If that person registers and starts trading in that time, they become your referral.
From then on, CEX.io pays you 30% of the commissions that user pays on qualifying trades and purchases. The official referral FAQ says rewards are calculated in USDC equivalent at the moment the transaction completes, there is no limit on how many people you can refer, and joining is free. The affiliate page adds the line that matters most: promote once and get rewards “for a lifetime”.
| Part of the program | Who gets it | What it is worth | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Referral commission | The referrer | 30% of the friend’s qualifying fees | Lifetime of the referral |
| Referral promo reward | Both sides | 25 or 50 USDC each, by region | Only during a campaign |
| Ongoing fee discount | The new user | None published | — |
| Affiliate tools and manager | Publishers and creators | Banners, landing pages, statistics | While active |
To create a link you need to be a verified customer with at least Identity-level verification. That is also the bar for using the exchange at all, so in practice it adds no extra step.
What a new user gets with a CEX.io promo code
Here is the honest answer: usually nothing extra, unless a campaign is running. CEX.io does not publish an invitee fee kickbackA kickback is part of your own trading fee that the exchange returns to you. With a 10% kickback, $10 of fees costs you $9., and the referral terms forbid referrers from paying friends money or perks to sign up unless a specific offer allows it. So a “CEX.io promo code” that promises you a private discount should make you suspicious.
What CEX.io does run is a series of monthly referral promos, each with its own official rules in the help center. The structure has been consistent across recent campaigns:
| Campaign type | Reward per side | Qualifying action | Cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selected countries (CEX OVRS LLC) | 25 USDC | First fiat deposit of $100+ | First 100 referrals |
| United States (CEX.IO Corp) | 50 USDC | First fiat deposit of $100+ | First 50 referrals |
| Tiered deposit promo (other countries) | 0.05 to 5 USDC | First fiat deposit, $100 to $10,000+ | First 50 referrals |
The 25 USDC campaigns listed about 25 eligible jurisdictions, including Serbia, Georgia, Armenia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Panama and the Dominican Republic. The tiered promo covered markets such as Ukraine, Brazil, Nigeria, Mexico and Argentina, and its smallest tier paid just 0.05 USDC. In every case the new user had to register through the link and finish KYC during the promo period, P2C transfers did not count, and the reward was claimed in the in-app Notification Center. The rules call the reward non-transferable with no cash alternative and do not mention a lock, so treat it as a small credit to your Wallet, not as guaranteed cash.
The cap is the real limit. A promo that rewards the first 50 qualifying referrals across the whole US is gone fast, and if you sign up after it fills, you get nothing extra. Check the current rules in the CEX.io help center before you deposit $100 for a reward.
The CEX.io affiliate program in depth
The affiliate program is where CEX.io stands out. Commercially, it is the same 30% engine as the referral link, but aimed at people with an audience: bloggers, YouTubers, publishers, comparison sites and app owners. CEX.io offers regularly updated banners and landing pages, traffic and earnings statistics in a Statistics tab, and a dedicated referral manager reachable at the affiliates address on the affiliate page.
How commissions accrue
Each time a referred user completes a qualifying trade or purchase, CEX.io calculates 30% of the commission that user paid, records it in USDC equivalent, and queues it for a compliance review. According to the FAQ, the reward is added to your balance automatically 30 to 45 days after the referred customer’s transaction. The affiliate landing page also uses the word “instantly” and in another spot “within 30 days”, which is inconsistent; the FAQ timing is the one to plan around.
The referral program terms add a few more rules you should know before promoting at scale. Pending reviews aim to finish within 90 days and can be extended. A retrospective review can run for up to 180 days. Disputes about a reward must be raised within 30 days of crediting. And CEX.io can reverse or recover a reward if the underlying deposit or trade is invalidated.
How you get paid
Commission arrives in your CEX.IO account balance. From there you can withdraw it to a Visa or Mastercard, a bank account or an e-wallet, or use it to buy crypto. Payout history sits on the Finance page under Transactions. CEX.io does not state a minimum payout threshold, which is good news for small sites: there is no published balance you must reach before a withdrawal.
What is banned
The rules are strict about traffic sources. You may not bid on brand keywords such as “cex.io”, “cex” or “cexio”, including misspellings, in paid search. You may not use pop-ups, forced redirects, cookie stuffing or link cloaking, send spam, or refer yourself through sub-accounts. The terms also describe the standard referral program as non-commercial: affiliate, broker and paid-media setups need separate written approval from CEX.io. If you plan to run ads or a business around the link, contact the affiliate team first.
Earn Referral CommissionsWhat 30% is worth in real money
Commission is a share of fees, so it only makes sense next to the fee schedule. CEX.io’s own materials state that Spot fees start at 0.25% for 30-day volume up to $10,000 and fall through eight tiers to 0.10% above $20 million. CEX.io’s university guide on fees says the schedule uses one rate for both makers and takers rather than a split, though some CEX.io marketing pages quote a lower maker rate, so check your own tier in the app. Card deposits cost 0.49% to 4.99% plus a service charge that varies by provider and country.
Here is what a single active referral at the entry Spot rate produces:
| Friend’s monthly Spot volume | Fees at 0.25% | Your 30% per month | Your 30% per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $2.50 | $0.75 | $9.00 |
| $5,000 | $12.50 | $3.75 | $45.00 |
| $10,000 | $25.00 | $7.50 | $90.00 |
| $50,000 | $125.00 | $37.50 | $450.00 |
The $50,000 row is an upper bound, since a friend at that volume moves into a cheaper tier and pays slightly less. The point stands: 30% is generous because the fees it is based on are relatively high. A referral who trades $5,000 a month on CEX.io earns you more than the same person would at 0.1% on Binance under a 20% split. CEX.io also mentions “qualifying trades and purchases” for commission. It does not publish exactly which purchase fees count, so treat card and Instant Buy commission as a possible bonus on top of the table above, not as a promise.

CEX.io vs Binance, Bybit, Kraken and Coinbase referral offers
Every big exchange splits its referral budget differently. Some pay the new user a welcome package, some pay a one-time bonus to both sides, and CEX.io puts nearly all of it on the referrer.
| Exchange | New user gets | Ongoing discount | Referrer earns |
|---|---|---|---|
| CEX.io | 25–50 USDC only in capped promos | None published | 30% of fees, lifetime |
| Binance | Up to $100 in fee vouchers | 0%, 5% or 10% | 20%–50% of Spot fees |
| Bybit | Up to 250 USDT in task rewards | None in standard program | Same tasks + 20% for 365 days |
| Kraken | Up to $20 USDG | None | Same bonus, capped referrals |
| Coinbase | Crypto bonus, varies by country | None | One-off bonus after a first buy |
For a beginner chasing the biggest welcome reward, CEX.io is not the winner. Bybit’s referral program offers far more in task rewards, though much of it needs real trading volume, and Binance’s referral code gives fee vouchers plus up to a 10% kickback. For a US resident, the useful comparison is Kraken’s referral bonus and Coinbase’s referral offer, both of which pay new users a one-time reward that CEX.io only matches during a campaign.
For someone sharing links, the picture flips. Binance’s commission is evaluated each quarter and its higher tiers need millions in referred volume. Bybit’s 20% stops after 365 days per friend. Kraken and Coinbase pay a one-off bonus with referral caps. CEX.io’s flat 30% with no stated end date and no referral limit is one of the simplest long-term deals in the exchange referral programs we track.
Who can use CEX.io and its referral program
CEX.io serves users through different legal entities. In the United States it operates as CEX.IO Corp, which lists money transmitter licenses in 38 states plus the District of Columbia on its US licenses page, with notes that the Louisiana and Tennessee licenses do not cover virtual currency transmission. The Terms of Use name New York as a restricted location. Outside the US, many users are served by CEX OVRS LLC.
Three regional limits stand out. The referral program is suspended in the UK until further notice. CEX.io’s promo pages state that services are not available to residents of Spain. And CEX.io wound down its services in Canada. Promo rewards add another layer: each campaign names its own countries, so a user in France or Germany may never see a 25 USDC offer.
On the plus side, the US is covered, which is rare among exchanges with a 30% referral share. If you are comparing offers that work for Americans, our list of US crypto bonuses puts CEX.io next to the alternatives.
KYC, limits and the first deposit
Identity verification is mandatory. CEX.io’s help center states that unverified users cannot buy crypto, deposit, trade or do anything else on their accounts. The automated check usually returns a result within 5 minutes if the documents are clear; blurry photos, expired IDs or missing Latin transliteration cause most rejections. Address verification raises card limits: identity-verified customers have a $3,000 card transaction limit, and new customers in their first three months after verification face a $1,000 daily and $3,000 monthly cap on some methods.
For promo purposes, the deposit that matters is a first fiat deposit of at least $100. Card deposits start at $20 and cost 0.49% to 4.99% plus a service charge. SEPA and Faster Payments deposits are free with a €2.99 or £2.99 withdrawal fee, and US ACH deposits are free with a $5 withdrawal fee. If you are depositing just to meet a promo, a free bank deposit beats a card. Our KYC guide for crypto bonuses explains what to prepare before you start.
Referral or affiliate: which one fits you?
| Your situation | Best route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want to invite a few friends | Standard referral link | Same 30% commission, no approval needed |
| You run a blog, channel or comparison site | Affiliate program | Banners, landing pages, stats and a manager |
| You plan paid ads or a broker setup | Ask for written approval first | Paid media is excluded without it |
| You are a new user hunting a bonus | Wait for a live promo in your country | No standing welcome reward |
| You live in New York or the UK | Look elsewhere | Restricted location or suspended program |
Technically the two programs share the same link and the same rate. The difference is scale and permission. A personal link shared with friends sits comfortably within the non-commercial referral terms. A site that publishes reviews or an app with thousands of users fits the affiliate track, where CEX.io offers creative material and a manager, and where the paid-media rules matter most. Our explainer on referral vs affiliate programs covers the difference across exchanges in more detail.
The fine print most CEX.io code pages leave out
A few details from the official terms shape what you actually earn. First, each referred user can be attributed to only one referrer, and attribution happens through CEX.io’s systems; if the cookie is lost, the referral may be lost too. Second, the terms exclude wash trading and repetitive fiat-to-stablecoin or stablecoin-to-stablecoin conversions from qualifying activity, so cycling funds between USDC and dollars will not generate commission. Third, CEX.io can change the program rules at any time, which is standard but worth remembering if you build a business on it.
None of that undermines the core offer. CEX.io tells you the percentage, the cookie length, the review period, the payout methods and the banned traffic sources, which is more than many larger exchanges spell out. The weak spot is the new-user side, where the reward depends on whether a capped promo happens to be live in your country.
What works
- Referrers earn 30% of their referrals' qualifying fees for the lifetime of each referral, with no limit on the number of people referred.
- Commission is calculated in USDC equivalent and can be withdrawn to a Visa or Mastercard, bank account or e-wallet.
- Open to US residents through CEX.IO Corp, which lists money transmitter licenses in 38 states plus DC.
- Promo campaigns publish full official rules with exact rewards, minimum deposits and caps in the CEX.io help center.
Watch out for
- New users get no standing bonus or fee discount; rewards depend on short campaigns capped at the first 50 or 100 qualifying referrals.
- Commission is credited only after a 30–45 day compliance review, and the affiliate page also says 'instantly', which is confusing.
- Spot fees start at 0.25% and card purchases cost 0.49%–4.99% plus a service charge, higher than Binance or Bybit entry fees.
- The referral program is suspended in the UK, and New York is a restricted location for US users.
Use CEX.io's referral and affiliate program if you are the one sharing the link: 30% of fees for the life of each referral is a clean, generous deal, and US audiences are reachable. As a new user, do not sign up for a code expecting a bonus. You only get something when a capped promo is running in your country, and there is no ongoing fee discount.
