- Sign-up bonus
- A BTC gift card worth $5 (Nano S Plus, Nano X), $10 (Nano Gen5) or $20 (Flex, Stax), not money off at checkout
- Fee discount (kickback)A kickback is the share of your own trading fees the platform hands back to you, usually for as long as the account exists.
- No percentage off the price. The BTC gift equals roughly 5–8% of the list price, depending on model
- Referrer reward
- The same amount in BTC per qualified referral: $5, $10 or $20 depending on the device bought
- KYCKnow Your Customer: identity verification with an ID document and often a selfie, required by regulated platforms before bonuses or withdrawals.
- Not required for buying the device. The BTC payout address may be screened by Ledger's payment provider.
- Withdrawable?
- Yes. Rewards are sent as BTC to a Bitcoin address you choose in the Refer-a-friend app, a few days after claiming
- Availability
- No country restrictions on the program itself; Ledger does not ship to sanctioned countries
- How the bonus unlocksWhat you must do (deposit, trade a volume, hold funds) before the bonus becomes usable or withdrawable.
- Full-price order through the link, first Ledger purchase, no cancellation for 30 days. One reward per order (highest-value device counts). Not combinable with promotions.
How to claim it, step by step
- Step 1
Open the Ledger referral link first
Open a referral link so it lands on the official Ledger store, then add your device. The link must be used for the order to count.
- Step 2
Buy at full price and keep the order
Pay the normal list price. Orders placed during a sale or bundle promotion are excluded, and the purchase only qualifies after 30 days without cancellation.
- Step 3
Find the scratch card in the box
Your device ships with a gift card. Scratch the grey area gently to reveal the one-time Gift Code. Do not scratch it if you might return the device.
- Step 4
Open Refer-a-friend in Ledger Wallet
In the Ledger Wallet app (formerly Ledger Live), go to Discover → Refer a friend, sign in with an Ethereum address from your new device and enter the Gift Code.
- Step 5
Claim the BTC to your own address
Choose or paste a Bitcoin address and claim. Ledger says payment arrives a few days after the claim is made.
Type “Ledger discount code” into a search engine and you will find dozens of pages promising 20%, 30% or even 50% off a Nano. None of them can show you that discount on Ledger’s own checkout. Ledger does not run a public percentage-off code. What it runs is a Refer a Friend program, and the “discount” it gives is a small amount of Bitcoin that lands after you have already paid full price.
That is not a bad deal. It is just a different deal from the one most code pages describe, and the details decide whether it is worth anything to you. This review uses Ledger’s own terms to show what each device earns, how long you wait and when you are better off ignoring the link altogether.
- $5–$20BTC gift card for the buyer, depending on device
- 30 dayswaiting period before a purchase qualifies
- $1,000yearly cap on BTC a referrer can claim
- 0%money off at checkout: the reward comes after
How the Ledger discount code really works
The Ledger referral link does two things. It tags your order to the person who shared it, and it causes Ledger to include a scratch-off gift card in your box. Behind the scratch panel is a one-time Gift Code. You enter that code in the Refer-a-friend app inside Ledger Wallet (the desktop and mobile app formerly called Ledger Live), and Ledger sends you Bitcoin.
The person who shared the link receives a matching reward once your order clears a 30-day period without cancellation. Both sides earn the same amount, which is set by the most valuable device in the order. Buying three devices does not triple the gift; the terms pay one reward per qualified referral and pick the highest-value product.
Ledger referral rewards per device
Ledger’s Refer a Friend terms list the reward for each eligible device. The device prices below are what the official Ledger store showed for a single unit at the time of checking; prices move with sales and bundles, so treat them as a guide.
| Device | List price | Your BTC gift | Gift as % of price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger Nano S Plus | $69 | $5 | 7.2% |
| Ledger Nano X | $99 | $5 | 5.1% |
| Ledger Nano Gen5 | $179 | $10 | 5.6% |
| Ledger Flex | $249 | $20 | 8.0% |
| Ledger Stax | $399 | $20 | 5.0% |
Two things stand out. First, the reward moves in steps rather than as a percentage: the Flex and the Stax earn the same $20 even though the Stax costs $150 more. Second, the Flex is the sweet spot, where $20 of BTC equals about 8% of the price. If you were torn between the Flex and a Nano, the referral link nudges the maths slightly toward the Flex.
Ledger’s referral landing page says friends can “earn up to $20”, and its FAQ mentions “$20 in Bitcoin”. Read that as the maximum. The terms table is what actually applies, and a Nano S Plus buyer receives $5. Ledger also notes that amounts can be different during promotional periods, so the number shown inside the Refer-a-friend app on the day you buy is the one that counts.
The fine print most code pages skip
Ledger’s terms are short and fairly clear, but several conditions catch buyers out.
- Full price only. Purchases must be made at full price. Orders placed during a Ledger promotion do not qualify unless Ledger says otherwise.
- No stacking. The program cannot be combined with other discounts, group offers or promotions.
- First-time buyers. The invitee must be at least 18 and must not have bought a Ledger product before.
- The 30-day wait. An order becomes a qualified referral only after 30 days pass without cancellation.
- Returns. If you want a refund, the product must come back with the gift card unscratched. Scratch it only once you know you are keeping the device.
- One-year window. Rewards have to be claimed within the calendar year they are earned; unused amounts do not roll over for referrers.
None of these are hidden, but they change the value calculation. If Ledger is running a seasonal sale with 20% off a Flex, that saves about $50, more than double the $20 BTC gift you would get at full price. In that case the referral link is worth nothing to you and you should simply buy on sale.
Open Referral PageWorked example: Flex at full price vs a seasonal sale
Say you want a Ledger Flex, listed at $249.
| Scenario | You pay | BTC you receive | Net cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Referral link, full price | $249 | $20 in BTC after 30+ days | $229 equivalent |
| Seasonal sale at 15% off | about $212 | Nothing (promo excludes gift) | about $212 |
| No link, no sale | $249 | Nothing | $249 |
The referral link wins only when no sale is running. Also remember that the BTC is priced in dollars when it is sent. If Bitcoin falls before you move it, the gift is worth less; if it rises, you gain a little. It is a small amount either way, so do not let the gift steer a purchase decision more than the device itself.
What the Ledger referral program pays the referrer
The referrer’s reward mirrors the buyer’s: $5, $10 or $20 in BTC per qualified referral. To take part you need your own Ledger, the Ledger Wallet app and an Ethereum address, which you use to sign in to the Refer-a-friend app in the Discover section. Rewards are claimed by giving a Bitcoin address, and Ledger says payment arrives a few days after you claim.
The yearly cap is $1,000 worth of BTC per referrer. At $20 per Flex or Stax, that means 50 high-end referrals before you hit it, which very few individuals reach. Ledger also bans the tactics that make code spam work: paid search ads on Ledger keywords, bots, fake accounts and bulk purchases through your own link.
Publishers and reviewers who want a commission rather than a BTC gift go through Ledger’s separate affiliate program instead. The difference between the two models is covered in our explainer on referral vs affiliate programs.
Fake Ledger promo codes and the 50% myth
Search results for a Ledger promo code are full of pages claiming 50% off, “verified today”, with a code to copy. They follow a pattern: a fake-looking expiry timer, a code that does nothing at checkout and a link that may not lead to ledger.com at all. Ledger’s official program has never offered a percentage discount through a code, and its seasonal sales are announced on the official store, not on coupon aggregators.
The danger is bigger than a wasted click. A hardware wallet is the one purchase where a fake shop can cost you everything you later store on it. Some lookalike stores sell tampered devices or ship a printed “recovery sheet” with 24 words already filled in. Anyone who knows those words controls the wallet. Our guide to spotting fake crypto bonuses covers the general warning signs; the hardware-specific ones are below.
How to buy a Ledger safely
A discount means nothing if the device is compromised. Follow these rules whether or not you use a referral link.
- Buy from ledger.com or an authorised reseller. Ledger publishes its list of authorised resellers on its own website. Marketplace sellers, auction listings and “brand new, opened once” offers are the riskiest source.
- Never accept a pre-initialised device. A genuine Ledger asks you to set it up and generates a new recovery phrase on its own screen. If the device is already configured, or a PIN arrives in the box, do not use it.
- Never share the recovery phrase. Ledger will never ask for your 24 words by email, phone, chat or in the app. No support agent, airdrop or “verification” needs them. Ledger’s support pages repeat this rule.
- Check the address bar. Referral links should resolve to the official Ledger domains. Lookalike domains with extra words or hyphens are a classic phishing route.
- Let Ledger Wallet run its genuine check. When you connect the device, the app verifies it is an authentic Ledger. Do not skip that step.
Ledger has also been a phishing target because of a past customer database leak. Scammers have sent emails and even physical letters pretending to be Ledger. A “discount” or “security upgrade” message that asks for your recovery phrase is always a scam.
Ledger vs other hardware wallet codes
Compared with the other wallets we cover, Ledger’s offer is the only one paid in real Bitcoin for the buyer. Trezor gives an instant percentage off at checkout, and Tangem combines a checkout discount with a USDT reward for the referrer.
| Brand | Buyer gets | Referrer gets | Paid as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger | $5–$20 in BTC after purchase | Same as buyer | BTC |
| Trezor | 10% off orders of $49+ | $20 shop voucher | Store credit |
| Tangem | 10% off, more via link promos | USDT per wallet sold | USDT on Tron |
| ELLIPAL | Varies by code; no customer referral | Affiliates only | PayPal or USDT |
If an instant discount matters more to you than BTC later, compare the Trezor discount code and the Tangem promo code. For a broader view of self-custody options and their bonuses, start at our crypto wallet bonus hub.
Is a Ledger discount code worth using?
For a first-time buyer paying full price, yes: the referral link costs nothing and returns $5 to $20 in BTC. It is a modest reward, roughly 5% to 8% of the device price, and it arrives after a month rather than at checkout. For anyone shopping during a sale, it is irrelevant because the two cannot combine. And for anyone tempted by a “Ledger discount code 50% off”, the honest answer is that it does not exist on Ledger’s own store, and the site offering it may be the bigger risk.
What works
- Both the buyer and the referrer receive the same BTC amount, up to $20 each on a Flex or Stax.
- The reward is paid in real BTC to your own address, not as store credit.
- Ledger publishes a full reward table per device in its Refer a Friend terms.
- No KYC is needed to buy the device or join the program; you sign in with an Ethereum address.
Watch out for
- There is no money off at checkout. You pay full list price and receive BTC later.
- Purchases made during Ledger promotions (Black Friday, bundles) do not qualify for the gift card.
- Only first-time Ledger buyers count as invitees, and the order must stay uncancelled for 30 days.
- A Nano S Plus or Nano X earns just $5 in BTC, about 5–7% of the list price.
- Returning the device for a refund requires the scratch card to be unscratched.
Use a Ledger referral link if you are buying your first Ledger at full price, especially a Flex or Stax where the BTC gift reaches $20. If a sale is running, skip the link and take the sale price instead, because the two never combine and a seasonal discount is usually worth more than $5 to $20 in BTC.
