How to claim it, step by step

Open CoinLedger through a referral link
Click the link before registering and keep cookies enabled. Tracking is cookie-based, so avoid private windows and switching devices.
- Step 2
Create a free account and import your history
Connect exchanges and wallets by API, wallet address or CSV. Importing and viewing your net gains costs nothing.
- Step 3
Review gains and fix errors on the free plan
Check the capital gains overview and resolve missing cost basis before paying, since a report is a one-time purchase per year.
- Step 4
Open Tax Reports and pick the tax year
Select the year from the drop-down, click Upgrade to Unlock and check that the 10% discount shows on the checkout page.
- Step 5
Purchase and download the report
Pay with a card and download your forms. You can request a full refund within 14 calendar days of purchase.
Type “CoinLedger discount code” into a search engine and you get a wall of coupon pages, each with a code and a percentage. CoinLedger itself works differently. Its help center describes one discount for new users: sign up through an existing user’s referral link and “they’ll see a 10% discount automatically applied to their account on the checkout page”. There is nothing to type. The link is the code.
That is easy to use, but a few details decide whether you actually get it: a 15-day tracking window, a ban on self-referrals, and a list of services the discount does not touch. This review walks through all of them, prices the saving on each report tier and explains why the per-year pricing matters more than the 10%.

How the CoinLedger discount code works
Every CoinLedger user gets a personal referral link under Profile → “Invite friends and Earn”. When someone opens that link and creates an account, CoinLedger applies a 10% discount on the checkout page. The same link also credits the person who shared it with a commission.
The mechanics matter because tracking is cookie-based, handled by a referral platform called FirstPromoter. CoinLedger lists the situations where a sign-up may not be tracked: a different browser or device, cleared cookies, or an incognito window. On top of that, the referral cookie lasts only 15 days. If you first click the link and then buy more than 15 days later, the conversion is no longer tracked.
Why most CoinLedger coupon codes online are not official
CoinLedger’s affiliate terms state that “coupon, discount, and rebate sites are not eligible” for its affiliate program, and the help center adds that referrals from coupon networks or coupon aggregator websites earn no commission. Self-referrals are “strictly prohibited”, and referral links may not be used in paid search or social ads.
In practice this means the codes you see on aggregator sites are either old campaign codes, someone’s personal link posted without permission, or simply invented. CoinLedger does not publish a public promo code list, so the only discount you can count on is the one that shows up on the checkout page after you register through a real user’s link. Our guide to spotting fake crypto bonuses applies to software coupons too: if a number is not on the brand’s own checkout page, do not plan around it.
CoinLedger pricing: one report per tax year
CoinLedger does not sell a subscription. Each tax report is a one-time purchase for one tax year, and the help article on purchasing a report is explicit that “tax reports are separate purchases for each year”. The pricing page lists four tiers:
| Plan | Price per tax year | Transactions covered | Full report download |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free (portfolio tracking) | $0 | Unlimited import | No |
| Hobbyist | $49 | Up to 100 | Yes |
| Investor | $99 | Up to 1,000 | Yes |
| Pro | from $199 | 3,000 and more | Yes |
If you go beyond the Pro tier, you buy additional transactions inside the app. All paid plans include IRS Form 8949, international tax reports, income and capital gains reports, an audit trail, tax loss harvesting and exports to TurboTax, TaxAct, H&R Block and TaxSlayer. Regenerating a report after edits is free as long as you stay within your tier’s transaction limit.
Worked example: what 10% off saves
The referral discount is a flat 10%. Here is what that is worth on a single tax year, and when you are catching up on three years at the same tier, assuming the discount applies to each report you buy on the account.
| Plan | One year, list | One year with 10% off | Three years, list | Three years with 10% off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hobbyist | $49 | $44.10 | $147 | $132.30 |
| Investor | $99 | $89.10 | $297 | $267.30 |
| Pro | $199 | $179.10 | $597 | $537.30 |
A concrete case: you traded around 700 times last year and never reported anything for the two years before. At the Investor tier, three separate reports cost $297. With the referral discount, the total drops to $267.30, a $29.70 saving. CoinLedger’s help center describes the discount as “applied to their account on the checkout page” but does not spell out whether it repeats on every later purchase, so confirm it on the checkout screen each time.
The per-year model is the main thing to compare against competitors. CoinTracker’s referral discount is larger at 20%, and its plans include forms for every past year, but it is an auto-renewing subscription. CoinLedger charges per year, never renews automatically and lets you buy only the years you need.
Open Referral PageThe free plan: what you get before paying
CoinLedger’s pricing FAQ says you can use the service “completely for free to import all of your crypto transaction history, view your net capital gains and losses, and track your portfolio”. Payment is only required to download and view the full tax report.
That means the free plan is a real working tool, not a demo. Connect every exchange and wallet, let CoinLedger match transfers, and look at the net gain or loss for each year. Fix missing cost basisMissing cost basis means the software cannot see what you originally paid for a coin, usually because it came from a wallet or exchange you have not connected. The gain then looks like the full sale price. warnings before you buy. Since tiers depend on the transaction count per tax year, cleaning up spam and duplicates can drop you from Pro to Investor, a $100 saving that dwarfs the 10% discount.
What the discount does not cover
CoinLedger sells more than software. Its service offerings include Done For You reconciliation, Expert Review and Tax Prep. The help article on Done For You states plainly that “discounts or promotional codes cannot be applied” to Done For You service fees, which also carry an extra fee starting at $1,000 for expedited work. The affiliate rules exclude all three services from commission, so assume the 10% referral discount is for the DIY tax report only.
| Purchase | 10% referral discount | Commission to the referrer |
|---|---|---|
| DIY tax report (Hobbyist, Investor, Pro) | Yes | 25% |
| Additional transactions in-app | Not stated | Not stated |
| Done For You | No | No |
| Expert Review and Tax Prep | Not stated | No |
What the person sharing the link earns
The referrer side is generous by software standards. CoinLedger pays a 25% recurring commissionA recurring commission keeps paying the referrer each time the referred customer pays again, here every year they buy a new tax report, rather than only on the first purchase. “for every year your referrals do their crypto taxes with us”. The affiliate page calls it “25% recurring income for life”, based on the report’s price.
Payouts work like this: once the balance reaches $30, you can request a payout to PayPal, but each commission only becomes eligible 30 days after it is credited, as a fraud check. If your friend buys a $99 Investor report through your link, the 10% discount brings it to $89.10, and you earn 25% of the report price. CoinLedger does not state whether the 25% is calculated before or after the 10% discount; on $89.10 it would be about $22.28.
This structure explains why CoinLedger links are pushed so hard: one referral can pay the sharer every tax season for years. Because the payout is cash via PayPal, it may be taxable income for the referrer; see our guide on how referral rewards are taxed. And if you are wondering why the same company runs a “referral” link and an “affiliate program” with identical terms, our referral vs affiliate explainer covers the distinction.
Refunds, payment and who can use CoinLedger
CoinLedger offers a full refund within 14 calendar days of purchase if you are not satisfied with the report. Payment is by card at checkout. If the Purchase Report button stays grey, CoinLedger suggests turning off ad blockers and password-manager card autofill, since they can block or misplace card details.
You do not need to verify your identity to use CoinLedger. An email is enough to create an account, and the software never moves your funds; it reads data through exchange APIs, wallet addresses and CSV files. Reports include US IRS forms and international tax reports, with prices shown in US dollars.
Is a CoinLedger discount code worth it?
| Your situation | What to do | Realistic saving |
|---|---|---|
| One simple tax year | Free plan first, then Hobbyist via referral link | $4.90 |
| Active trader, one year | Clean data, then Investor or Pro via link | $9.90 to $19.90 |
| Catching up on several years | Use the link, buy each year’s report | Around $30 on three Investor reports |
| Want someone to do it for you | Done For You; no discount applies | $0 |
The link costs you nothing and takes no extra steps, so use one if you are buying a DIY report. Just keep your expectations at 10%, act within the 15-day tracking window and remember that the right tier and a clean import save far more. What works
- The 10% referral discount is applied automatically at checkout with no code to type.
- Importing data, tracking your portfolio and viewing net gains are free before you buy.
- A 14-day money-back guarantee applies to report purchases.
- Reports can be regenerated for free after edits as long as you stay within your tier's transaction limit.
Watch out for
- Each tax year is a separate purchase, so catching up on several years multiplies the cost.
- The discount is only 10%, smaller than the 20% first-year referral discount at some competitors.
- Discounts and promo codes cannot be applied to CoinLedger's Done For You service.
- Referral tracking expires 15 days after the first click, so a late purchase may not be linked.
Use a CoinLedger discount link if you are buying a DIY tax report and want an easy 10% off: $9.90 on the $99 Investor report, more if you buy several years. It will not make a big dent in the price, and it does nothing for the Done For You service. The bigger saving is choosing the right transaction tier after cleaning your data on the free plan.
