How to claim it, step by step
- Step 1
Open CoinTracker through the invite link
Click the referral link first. CoinTracker shows the referral offer, and a banner with the discount appears later on the Subscription page.
- Step 2
Create a free account
Register with email. No ID check is needed, and the free plan lets you connect wallets and exchanges straight away.
- Step 3
Import everything and preview your taxes
Connect exchanges by API or CSV and review the free tax summary. Fix missing transfers before you pay.
- Step 4
Choose the plan that fits this year's transaction count
CoinTracker counts only the current tax year's transactions. Pick Base, Prime or Ultra and confirm the 20% referral discount before paying.
- Step 5
Pay and download your forms
Pay by card, digital wallet or USDC, then download the forms. You lose the 30-day refund option once forms are downloaded.
Most CoinTracker promo code pages give you a link and a big “20% off” badge. That number is real, and it comes from CoinTracker’s own referral program article: a friend who signs up through your invite link “will get 20% off their first paid plan”. What those pages rarely add is that the discount covers only the first year of a subscription that renews automatically, and that it cannot be stacked with any other promo.
This review puts the 20% against CoinTracker’s published prices, shows what you pay in year two, and explains the free plan, so you can decide whether a code is worth anything for your tax situation.
- 20%off the first paid plan for new customers via a referral link
- $59price of Base, the cheapest paid plan, per year
- $500maximum the referrer can earn from one friend
- 30 daysrefund window, as long as no tax forms were downloaded
What a CoinTracker promo code really gives you
CoinTracker has two discount routes. The first is the referral program run with Cello, a referral software company. The second is partner promos, which CoinTracker mentions in its pricing FAQ without listing them publicly. The pricing FAQ sets three rules that apply to both:
- Promos cannot be combined.
- If you qualify for more than one, CoinTracker applies the one that saves you the most.
- Promos apply to your first year only.
| Discount route | Who can use it | Size | When it applies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Referral invite link | New CoinTracker customers | 20% off | First paid plan only |
| Partner promo | Customers of a partner platform | Set by the partner | First year only |
| Introductory Base rate | First-time filers with a simple year | Not published | First year only |
That last row comes from the pricing FAQ, which says first-time filers on Base “pay an introductory rate for their first year”. CoinTracker does not publish the amount, so check the checkout screen. Because promos never stack, you get whichever of these is largest, not their sum.
CoinTracker pricing in full
CoinTracker sells annual subscriptions priced by how many transactions you have in the tax year you are filing. Earlier years do not count against the limit. Each plan has a regular and a “plus” level, according to the pricing page:
| Plan | Price per year | Transactions this year |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Tracking only, no tax forms |
| Base / Base+ | $59 / $99 | 100 / 250 |
| Prime / Prime+ | $199 / $299 | 1,000 / 2,500 |
| Ultra / Ultra+ | $499 / $999 | 10,000 / 25,000 |
| Higher volume | from $1,999 | above 25,000 |
| Full Service | from $3,499 | up to 300,000 lifetime |
Two rules make CoinTracker’s prices go further than the sticker suggests. Spam, dust and referral rebatesRebates such as exchange fee kickbacks or referral payouts are small incoming credits. Many tax tools count each one as a transaction; CoinTracker excludes them on paid plans. never count toward your limit on paid plans, and from Prime upward staking rewards and interest are excluded too. And one plan includes forms for every past year you traded, so catching up on three years costs the same as filing one.
Worked example: what 20% off saves on each plan
The referral discount is a straight 20% off the first paid plan. Here is what that means in dollars, and what the same plan costs when it renews.
| Plan | List price | First year with 20% off | You save | Year two (renewal) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | $59 | $47.20 | $11.80 | $59 |
| Prime | $199 | $159.20 | $39.80 | $199 |
| Prime+ | $299 | $239.20 | $59.80 | $299 |
| Ultra | $499 | $399.20 | $99.80 | $499 |
A concrete case: you made 600 trades this year and never filed crypto taxes before. Prime covers 1,000 transactions this year and includes forms for every past year. With the referral link you pay $159.20 instead of $199, a saving of $39.80. If you leave auto-renewal on, next year you pay the full $199 at your current tier. If you only needed one catch-up season, turn auto-renewal off right after buying.
Open Referral PageThe free plan: a preview, not a report
CoinTracker’s Free plan is useful but limited on purpose. You can connect as many wallets and exchanges as you like (each wallet can hold up to 50,000 transactions), see portfolio value, get automatic categorization and cost basisCost basis is what you originally paid for a coin, including fees. Your taxable gain is the sale price minus the cost basis, so a missing cost basis can make gains look far larger than they are. rebuilt across transfers, and preview your tax summary.
What Free does not include: downloadable tax forms, the TurboTax and H&R Block integrations, tax loss harvesting and DeFi positions in the portfolio view. In practice, Free tells you how much tax you are likely to owe; a paid plan gives you the documents to actually file it.
That makes the order of operations simple. Import everything on Free, fix any flagged gaps, and only then buy with the referral discount. CoinTracker’s refund policy allows a refund within 30 days of purchase, but only if you have not downloaded tax forms. If you buy first and discover errors after downloading, the refund is gone.
What the referrer earns
The person who shares the link earns 20% of the friend’s first-year subscription cost, up to $500 per referral. There is no cap on how many people they can refer. Rewards are tracked in the Rewards tab of the referral section and claimed by choosing a payout method: PayPal or Venmo. Some countries require extra payout information. Cello pays out 30 days after a completed plan purchase.
The help center gives two sample figures: “$36 USD if your invitee purchases a Prime plan, and up to $500 USD if they purchase a Full Service plan”. The $36 does not match today’s $199 Prime price (20% of $199 would be $39.80, and 20% of the discounted $159.20 would be $31.84), so treat it as an older illustration. The $500 cap is consistent: 20% of a $3,499 Full Service plan would be $699.80, so the cap kicks in.
Because the payout is cash rather than account credit, it is one of the few crypto tax referral programs where the reward could count as taxable income for the referrer. Our guide to how crypto referral rewards are taxed explains the general logic.
How to invite friends to CoinTracker
If you already use CoinTracker and want to share it:
- Sign in and choose “Earn up to $500 USD” in the navigation panel.
- Copy your unique invite link from the pop-up.
- Share it by text, email or messaging apps.
- Watch the Rewards tab; you get an email the first time someone views your link and another when a referral pays.
If a paying friend does not appear on your list the same day, CoinTracker suggests checking the requirements and waiting 2 days for the reward email. The rules are strict: the friend must be a new customer and must sign up through your link. A friend who registers without it cannot be added later. Our guide on how to use a referral code correctly covers the common mistakes, such as opening the link in a different browser than the one used to sign up.
Who can use CoinTracker
CoinTracker supports filers in more than 40 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and France, with local currency and local cost basis rules. You can check out in your local currency and pay by card, digital wallet or USDC. There is no identity verification for users; you only need an email to open an account. Referrers may be asked for extra details by Cello to receive payouts in some countries.
Is a CoinTracker promo code worth it?
| Your situation | Best route | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| First paid year, simple trades | Referral link or intro Base rate, whichever is larger | $11.80 or more off Base |
| Active trader catching up on several years | Referral link on Prime or Ultra | $39.80 to $99.80 saved, every past year included |
| Customer of a CoinTracker partner | Compare partner promo with 20% | Only the larger one applies |
| Returning customer at renewal | No code applies | Full price; adjust your tier at renewal |
For a new customer, the answer is yes: a 20% first-year discount on a plan you would buy anyway is a clean saving with no deposit or trading requirement attached. For returning customers, there is nothing to claim, and the real saving comes from choosing the right tier. If you want a one-time purchase model instead of a subscription, compare it with CoinLedger’s discount link, or see the full crypto tax software overview. The referral vs affiliate guide explains why some sites push one link over another.
What works
- The referral link takes 20% off the first paid plan, so Prime drops from $199 to $159.20.
- One plan covers tax forms for every past year you traded, not just the current one.
- Spam, dust and referral rebates never count toward the transaction limit; staking rewards are excluded from Prime upward.
- Referrers are paid in cash via PayPal or Venmo, not in store credit.
Watch out for
- The discount covers the first year only, and plans renew automatically at full price.
- Promos cannot be combined; if you qualify for several, CoinTracker applies only the largest.
- The free plan has no downloadable tax forms, only a preview.
- The referral landing page advertises 20% off in its headline but mentions 10% further down, which is confusing.
Use a CoinTracker referral link if you are a new customer about to buy a paid plan: 20% off is one of the clearer discounts in crypto tax software, worth $11.80 on Base and $99.80 on Ultra. Remember it is a first-year discount on an auto-renewing subscription, so switch off auto-renewal if you only need one season.
