How to claim it, step by step
- Step 1
Open the sign-up page with the code attached
Use a referral link or type the code into the Referral code (optional) field before you submit the form. Gate does not offer a way to attach a code later.
- Step 2
Create the account and download the app
Register with email or phone. Several beginner and invite tasks are completed inside the Gate app, so install it and log in with the new account.
- Step 3
Verify your identity
Complete identity and face verification. This is a task in both reward tracks. If your identity was already verified before you joined the invite event, Gate treats that task as invalid.
- Step 4
Deposit and keep the funds in place
Make the deposit the task asks for and leave it on the account for at least 2 hours. GateCode transfers and gift coins do not count as valid deposits.
- Step 5
Finish the trading task and claim
Complete the trade shown in the task, then claim the reward. Vouchers arrive within 14 working days and must be activated within 14 days of being credited.
Search for a Gate.io referral code and you will find promises of “10,000 USDT”, “20% off fees forever” and everything in between. Gate’s own pages tell a smaller, more specific story. A code puts you into an invite event that pays the new user up to 100 USDT in token vouchers. Separately, every new account sees a beginner package in the Rewards Hub, listed at 125 USDT in vouchers. Neither track comes with a published fee discount for you, and both require full identity verification.
That is still a reasonable deal if you were planning to trade on Gate. This review separates the parts that are real value from the parts that are headline math, using the rules Gate publishes in its help center and on its referral page.
- 100 USDTmaximum invitee reward in the invite event, paid as token vouchers
- 125 USDTbeginner package listed in the Rewards Hub, also in vouchers
- 2 hourshow long the task deposit must stay on the account
- 14 daysto activate a voucher after it is credited
Gate.io referral code: the two reward tracks
Gate stacks two separate programs, and most code pages blur them into one number. Here is how they line up.
| Track | Who gets it | Headline value | Paid as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner package | Any new user | 125 USDT | Vouchers in Rewards Hub |
| Advanced trading task | New users who keep trading | Up to 10,000 USDT | Tiered vouchers |
| Invite event | Users who sign up with a code | Up to 100 USDT | Token vouchers |
| Inviter reward | The person who shared the code | Up to 200 USDT or up to 40% commission | Token vouchers or commission |
The beginner package does not depend on a code. What the code adds is the invite event row, which has its own tasks and its own voucher type. It also links your account to the inviter, who then earns either event vouchers or ongoing referral commissionA commission is the share of your trading fees that the exchange pays to the person who referred you. It comes out of the exchange's revenue, not your balance.. Gate’s invite event rules state that event rewards cannot be combined with referral commission, so an inviter collects one or the other for you, not both.
What the beginner package actually pays
The Rewards Hub lists five beginner tasks. At the time of checking they added up to 125 USDT:
| Task | Requirement | Listed reward |
|---|---|---|
| Sign up | Register and log in | 50 USDT |
| Identity verification | ID plus face verification | 50 USDT |
| First deposit | 10 USDT or more | 10 USDT |
| First trade | Spot or futures trade of 10 USDT or more | 5 USDT |
| App download | First login in the Gate app | 10 USDT |
The catch is the word “voucher”. Gate’s beginner rules name five reward types for these tasks: trading fee rebate vouchers, futures bonuses, futures vouchers, trial funds valid for 3 days, and VIP trial cards. Which type you get for which task is shown inside your account, not on the public page. A 50 USDT futures voucher and 50 USDT in your Spot wallet are very different things.
A few more rules apply. Each verified identity can claim the beginner tasks once, however many accounts it holds. Market makers, institutions, sub-accounts and affiliate accounts are excluded. Daily reward quotas are limited and first come, first served, so a completed task can roll its reward over to the next day. The tasks run only during the countdown shown on the event page.
The invite event: what a code adds
The referral page describes an event in which the inviter can earn up to 200 USDT and the friend up to 100 USDT, with a maximum of 100 USDT per invite. Rewards are paid as token vouchers. To qualify, the invitee completes three tasks:
- Identity verification. If your identity was verified before you joined the event, this task does not count.
- A deposit of the amount shown in the task, kept on the account for at least 2 hours.
- A trading task completed in the Gate app.
Gate does not publish the exact deposit amount or trading task on the public page. That is a transparency problem: you only see the real threshold after you have registered and linked the code. Valid deposits include on-chain transfers and P2P purchases, while GateCode transfers and gift coins are excluded, along with several card and bank channels listed in the rules. Check the deposit method against the event list before you send money.
Once you claim, Gate reviews the request and credits the voucher within 14 working days. You then have 14 days to activate it, and rewards must be withdrawn during the event period or they expire.
Open Referral PageAre Gate vouchers real money?
Some are close to it, and some are not. This is where the headline numbers diverge most from what lands in your account.
| Voucher type | What happens on activation | Can you withdraw it? |
|---|---|---|
| Token voucher | Face value credited to your Spot account | Gate says the funds can be used, transferred or traded freely |
| Futures voucher | Usable only as margin in Futures Voucher mode on USDT perpetuals | No, but profits move to your Futures or Unified account |
| Futures bonus | Margin that offsets futures fees and losses | No, the bonus itself stays locked |
| Trading fee rebate voucher | Refunds part of your trading fees | No, it only reduces fees |
| Trial fund | Test capital for an Earn product, valid 3 days | No |
The invite event pays token vouchers, which makes it the most useful part of the package. Gate’s Token Voucher article states there are no restrictions on the credited tokens. The beginner package, by contrast, mixes in futures vouchersA futures voucher is credit you can only use as margin for futures trades. You keep profits made with it, but the voucher itself cannot be withdrawn and disappears when it expires. and fee rebate vouchers. A futures voucher has one upside: Gate states that losses on voucher trades are not borne by the user. When it expires, though, any open position is closed at market price and the voucher is gone.
Worked example: a realistic first month
Say you sign up with a code, verify, deposit 100 USDT through an on-chain transfer, buy 50 USDT of a coin and download the app. You complete every beginner task and the invite event’s basic tasks.
- If the invite event pays you a token voucher of, say, 20 USDT, that 20 USDT is genuine Spot balance once activated. The 100 USDT figure is the maximum, and Gate does not publish the typical amount.
- The 125 USDT beginner package arrives as a mix of vouchers. If 50 USDT of it is a futures voucher and you never open a futures trade, its value to you is zero when it expires.
- Fee rebate vouchers only matter if you trade enough to pay fees. A 10 USDT rebate voucher needs 10 USDT of fees to be fully used, which at a 0.1% rate means 10,000 USDT of trading volume.
So a casual buyer realistically walks away with the token voucher plus a slice of the beginner rewards. An active futures trader gets more out of the package, because futures vouchers and bonuses suit exactly that use.
No published fee discount for invitees
Many referral programs return part of your fees as a kickback. Gate’s referral page advertises up to 40% commission for the inviter but does not state any fee discount for the person who signs up. Its affiliate page mentions “permanent commission rebates” for affiliates without giving rates or saying whether any part is passed to invitees.
If a code site promises “20% off Gate fees”, treat it as unverified. Compare that with exchanges that publish the invitee share, such as the 0–10% range in Binance’s referral program. For background on how these splits work, see our guide to how referral kickbacks work.
Can you add a Gate referral code later?
No. The referral relationship is set when the account is created, either through a referral link or the code field on the sign-up form. Gate does not offer a public form to attach one afterwards. The beginner rules also count every account with the same identity as one, so a second account opened to grab a code would not get a second beginner package and risks both accounts being flagged.
There is one more timing trap. Because the invite event voids the identity-verification task if you were already verified, register with the code first and verify second.
Who is excluded
Gate’s User Agreement names the United States, Canada, Japan, the UK and Hong Kong among its restricted locations, and the list “includes but is not limited to” those places. The invite event adds its own exclusions: residents of Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Turkey and South Korea cannot take part, even where Gate is otherwise accessible. US residents should look at US-friendly crypto bonuses instead.
Affiliates are a separate case. If either the inviter or the invitee holds affiliate status, the invite event pays nothing. Gate also reserves the right to cancel rewards for wash trading, fake trades or what it calls malicious cash-out.
Is a Gate.io referral code worth it for you?
| Your profile | What to expect | Our take |
|---|---|---|
| One-off buyer in an eligible country | Token voucher plus part of the beginner package | Worth it, the tasks are cheap |
| Active futures trader | Full use of futures vouchers and bonuses | Good fit, but compare kickbacks elsewhere |
| Fee-sensitive Spot trader | No published discount | Look at exchanges with a stated kickback |
| Resident of Germany, France or the UK | Invite event unavailable | Skip it |
Gate’s offer is real but voucher-heavy and thin on published detail. If an ongoing fee discount matters more to you than one-off vouchers, compare it with Bitget’s referral terms and the rest of our exchange referral reviews. And before you chase any five-figure headline, read our breakdown of how fake crypto bonuses are built.
What works
- The beginner package starts with tasks that need only a 10 USDT deposit and a 10 USDT first trade.
- Token vouchers from the invite event are credited to the Spot account once activated, with no usage restriction stated by Gate.
- Gate's referral FAQ states that the referral relationship has no time limit as long as it is not terminated.
- Futures vouchers carry no loss risk for you: Gate states that trading losses on the voucher are not borne by the user.
Watch out for
- Gate's referral page shows no fixed invitee fee discount, unlike exchanges that publish a 10% or 20% kickback.
- The invite event's deposit amount and trading task are only shown inside the account, not in the public rules.
- Invite rewards cannot be combined with referral commission or with another referral event.
- The invite event excludes residents of Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, the UK, Turkey and South Korea.
- Unused futures vouchers expire and positions opened with them are closed at market price.
A Gate.io referral code is worth using if you plan to trade on Gate anyway and live outside its long list of restricted countries: the invite vouchers sit on top of the beginner package and cost you nothing extra. Do not pick Gate for a fee kickback, because no invitee discount is published, and treat the bigger headline numbers as voucher ceilings rather than cash.
