KuCoin Referral Code: How the Fee Cashback Really Works

A KuCoin referral code links you to an inviter who earns 25% to 35% of your trading fees and can hand part of that back to you as cashback. The welcome rewards are shown in the app; the cashback is the part with published rules. Here is how it is calculated, why your rate can move each month and where it stops.

How to claim it, step by step

  1. Step 1

Open the KuCoin sign-up page with the code

Use a referral link or type the code into the Referral Code field on the registration form. Referral, invite and promo codes all go into that field.

  2. Step 2

    Register and complete KYC verification

Submit your ID and complete the face check. The inviter's commission, and with it your cashback, starts from the day KYC is completed.

  3. Step 3

    Check your cashback rate

Ask your inviter which cashback share they set for you, or look at your fee records after the first trade. The rate can be anything from 0% up to the inviter's commission rate.

  4. Step 4

    Claim newcomer rewards

Open the rewards area in the app and complete the newcomer tasks shown for your region before they expire.

  5. Step 5

Trade Spot, Margin, Futures or bots

Cashback is paid on eligible trades for 365 days after registration and is settled daily. API trades and some account types do not count.

KuCoin is one of the few large exchanges where a referral code can put real money back into your account on every trade. The welcome gifts get the headlines, but the part with clear, published rules is the cashbackA share of your own trading fees returned to you after each trade. KuCoin calls it cashback; other exchanges say kickback or rebate. your inviter can share with you. That is also the part most KuCoin referral code and promo code pages get wrong, because the rate is not fixed: it depends on the inviter, it can change every month, and it has an end date.

This review uses KuCoin’s own referral terms to explain how the cashback is calculated, what the newcomer rewards are, and which details matter before you type in a code.

  • 25%initial commission a new referrer earns on your fees
  • 35%maximum commission KuCoin advertises, which caps your cashback
  • 365 dayshow long your trades generate commission and cashback
  • VIP 3level at which commission and cashback stop

What a KuCoin referral code gives you

A KuCoin code links your new account to the person or affiliate who owns it. From then on, part of every eligible fee you pay goes to that inviter, and the inviter decides how much of it to hand back.

KuCoin’s referral page says invited friends “stand to receive cashback and exclusive newcomer rewards.” The cashback rules are written out in full; the newcomer reward amounts are not, and they change with campaigns and regions. We could not confirm a fixed KuCoin sign-up bonus figure on any official page, so treat any site quoting one as describing a temporary campaign.

How the KuCoin cashback is calculated

The mechanics are straightforward once you see them in order:

  1. You register with a code and complete KYC.
  2. From the day KYC is done until the end of that month, the referrer earns a 25% commission on your trading fees.
  3. The referrer sets an exclusive cashback rate for you, up to their own current commission rate.
  4. Every day, KuCoin calculates the commission on the fees you actually paid, splits it, and pays both shares the following day in the same currency as the fee.

Cashback applies to Spot trades (including Margin and trading bots), ETFs and Futures. API trading is not eligible. Because the cashback is a share of fees you really paid, it lands as normal balance, not as a voucher.

Here is what that looks like for a trader paying an illustrative 0.1% on each trade. Your real rate depends on your KuCoin fee tier and the coin, which the fee page shows after login.

Monthly volumeFees at 0.1%Cashback at 10%Cashback at 20%
$1,000$1$0.10$0.20
$10,000$10$1$2
$100,000$100$10$20
$500,000$500$50$100

At $100,000 a month, a 20% share returns about $240 over the year. At $1,000 a month it barely covers a coffee. As with every kickback program, the value scales with your volume. Our guide on how referral kickbacks work shows the same maths across exchanges.

Why your cashback rate can change every month

This is the clause almost nobody quotes. On the 1st of each month KuCoin reassesses the referrer’s commission rate based on the previous month’s referral performance. When the rate changes, KuCoin keeps the original ratio between referrer and invitee and rescales both shares.

KuCoin’s own examples make the effect clear:

SituationBeforeAfterYour cashback
Rate rises from 20% to 35%15% you + 5% referrer26% you + 9% referrerGoes up
Rate falls from 35% to 15%10% you + 25% referrer4% you + 11% referrerDrops by more than half

The rounding favours the referrer (their share is rounded up), and your share is whatever remains. So a code advertised as “20% cashback” is only 20% while that referrer keeps their rate. If they stop bringing in new users, your discount shrinks with theirs.

Where the cashback stops

Three hard limits apply, and each one ends the cashback completely rather than reducing it.

  • 365 days. The referrer earns commission on your trades for 365 days after your registration. After that, no commission is generated and there is nothing to share.
  • VIP Lv. 3 or higher. If your account reaches VIP 3, your fees no longer generate commission. At that point your VIP fee discount is usually worth more anyway.
  • API trading. Orders placed through the API do not generate commission, so automated traders using their own scripts get no cashback on those orders.

Certain referrer account types are excluded from the program altogether: sub-accounts, affiliate accounts, institutional users, temporary users and several kinds of market makers. If you are invited by one of those accounts, the standard referral cashback rules described here may not apply.

Newcomer rewards and the promo code question

People search for a KuCoin promo code as if it unlocked a separate welcome bonus. For a new account it does not: every code you find online goes into the same referral field and links you to an inviter. KuCoin does run coupons and event rewards, but those are distributed through campaigns and the rewards area in the app, not typed in as a sign-up promo code.

The newcomer rewards themselves vary. Older KuCoin campaigns have included a one-month fee-discount trial for invited users, futures fee vouchers for reaching a trading volume, and cash rewards for completing KYC from limited first-come, first-served pools. None of those amounts is guaranteed today. Open the rewards area right after you register and note each task’s deadline, because unclaimed rewards expire.

What the inviter earns

The referral page headline is “up to 35% commission.” New referrers start at 25% for the month in which their invitee completes KYC, and the rate is reassessed monthly from there. KuCoin’s older help article described a model where the referrer earned up to 20% and could share all of it with friends; the current terms keep the sharing idea but with the monthly rescaling described above.

Separately, KuCoin’s Refer & Earn boost campaign lets inviters earn up to 100 USDT when friends sign up and “boost” their progress. Earlier versions used stars that could be redeemed for Mystery Boxes and Treasure Chests worth up to 1,000 USDT. These are inviter rewards; they do not change what you receive.

Referrers must not run search ads for KuCoin, imitate official pages or bulk-register accounts. KuCoin can disqualify referrers and cancel unpaid commissions, which would also end your cashback from that referrer.

Can you add a KuCoin referral code later?

The code belongs on the registration form. KuCoin’s help center does list a self-service request called “Link Referrer” to add a referrer manually, and a matching “Unlink Referrer” request. KuCoin does not publish when such a request is approved, so do not count on it. Enter the code before you sign up, and do not open a second account to use a different code: KuCoin bans self-referrals and revokes rewards on duplicate accounts.

If you are not sure how referral fields behave across exchanges, read our guide on how to use a referral code.

Who cannot use KuCoin

KuCoin’s Terms of Use list these restricted locations: the United States and its territories, Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, France, the Netherlands, and the occupied Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions of Ukraine. The referral program adds Belgium to the list of places where it is not offered. KuCoin also blocks access from restricted IP addresses and forbids using a VPN to get around it.

US residents should look at US-friendly crypto bonuses instead.

KuCoin versus other exchange codes

KuCoin’s ceiling for an invitee discount is higher than Binance’s standard 10%, but it depends on the inviter and lasts only a year. Compare it with the Binance referral code and the task-based Bybit referral program, or browse all offers in our exchanges category.

What works

  • The inviter can pass back up to their full commission rate, so a code with a high cashback share returns a real slice of every fee.
  • Cashback covers Spot, Margin, trading bots, ETFs and Futures, not just one product.
  • Commissions and cashback are settled daily and paid in the same currency as the fee you paid.
  • KuCoin publishes the referral terms in full, including worked examples of how the split is recalculated.

Watch out for

  • Cashback stops 365 days after your registration, when the inviter's commission period ends.
  • Your cashback percentage can fall when the inviter's monthly commission rate drops, as KuCoin rescales the split.
  • Reaching VIP Lv. 3 or higher ends the commission, and with it your cashback.
  • Newcomer reward amounts are not published in the referral terms and differ by campaign and region.
  • KuCoin does not serve the US, France, the Netherlands, Singapore or Hong Kong, and the referral program also excludes Belgium.
Bottom line

A KuCoin referral code makes sense if you will trade actively in your first year and the inviter shares a meaningful cashback rate. That cashback is real money on every eligible trade. Ask what share you will get before signing up, and remember it ends after 365 days or when you reach VIP 3.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a difference between a KuCoin referral code and a KuCoin promo code?
For new accounts, no. Codes promoted as KuCoin promo codes go into the same Referral Code field and link you to an inviter. KuCoin's coupons for existing users are separate rewards distributed through events, not a code you type at sign-up.
How much cashback do I get with a KuCoin referral code?
It depends on the inviter. KuCoin lets referrers set an exclusive cashback rate for each invited user, up to their own current commission rate. New referrers start at 25%, and KuCoin advertises up to 35%. A code could return 0%, 10%, 20% or more of your fees.
Can I add a KuCoin referral code after registration?
The code is meant to be entered at sign-up. KuCoin's help center does list a self-service Link Referrer request to add a referrer manually, but it does not publish the conditions, so approval is not guaranteed. Enter the code on the registration form to be safe.
How long does the KuCoin referral cashback last?
Up to 365 days from your registration. After that, your trades no longer generate commission for the referrer, so there is nothing left to share with you.
Why did my KuCoin cashback percentage change?
KuCoin reassesses each referrer's commission rate on the 1st of every month and rescales the split. If your referrer's rate drops from 35% to 15%, a 10% cashback can shrink to about 4%.
Can US residents use a KuCoin referral code?
No. KuCoin's Terms of Use list the United States and its territories as restricted locations, so US residents cannot open an account or join the referral program.
