How to claim it, step by step
- Step 1
Get a referral code, not an affiliate code
Ask your friend to share the code from the Refer a Friend page, or open their referral link. An affiliate code puts you in a different program with no $10 bonus.
- Step 2
Register and enter the code
On the CoinSpot registration page, type the code into the Referral Code or Affiliate Code field, or open the referral link so it is filled in for you.
- Step 3
Verify your identity
Complete individual account verification. Business, trust and SMSF accounts have separate verification guides.
- Step 4
Make your first AUD deposit
PayID and direct bank deposits are free. The reward triggers once the deposit has landed in your CoinSpot account.
- Step 5
Look for the Bitcoin in your wallet
Both you and your referrer receive $10 AUD worth of BTC, calculated at the moment your deposit completes.
CoinSpot keeps its referral offer short. If someone refers you with a CoinSpot referral code, you register with it, verify your identity and make your first deposit in Australian dollars. Once that deposit lands, you each receive $10 AUD worth of Bitcoin. No trading volume, no task list, no fee vouchers that expire after three days.
The simplicity hides two details that matter more than the $10 itself: CoinSpot puts referral codes and affiliate codes in the same sign-up field, and its fee structure can swallow the bonus on your first purchase if you use the wrong buy button. This review covers both, using CoinSpot’s own help centre articles.
- $10AUD of Bitcoin for you after your first AUD deposit
- $10AUD of Bitcoin for the friend who referred you
- 0.1%fee on Markets orders, against 1% for Instant Buy
- $0deposit fee via PayID or direct bank transfer
How the CoinSpot referral program works
The process has three conditions, and CoinSpot spells them out in its help article on referring a friend:
- The new user creates a CoinSpot account through a referral link or by entering the referral code at registration.
- The new user verifies the account.
- The new user completes at least one AUD deposit, and that deposit lands in their CoinSpot account.
When the third step finishes, both people receive $10 worth of Bitcoin. CoinSpot calculates the Bitcoin amount at the time the deposit completes, so if BTC trades at $150,000 AUD, you get roughly 0.0000667 BTC. CoinSpot’s double-referral promotion notes also describe the deposit as coming “from your nominated bank account”, which is worth keeping in mind if you planned to fund the account another way.
CoinSpot reserves the right to change the promotion terms at its discretion with notice on its website. Its referral help article does not mention a deadline for the first deposit; some third-party pages quote a time limit, but we could not confirm one on CoinSpot’s own pages. Our advice: deposit within a few days of verifying so there is no question.
Referral code vs affiliate code: the trap in the sign-up field
CoinSpot’s registration page has a single field labelled Referral Code or Affiliate Code. Both kinds of code go there, and they lead to different outcomes.
| Referral code | Affiliate code | |
|---|---|---|
| What the new user gets | $10 AUD of Bitcoin | Nothing extra |
| What the code owner gets | $10 AUD of Bitcoin, once | 30% of net fees, reducing over three years |
| Trigger | First AUD deposit after verification | Every buy and sell the new user makes |
| Can be combined | No: one or the other per new user | No |
CoinSpot says plainly that a new user cannot claim the referral promotion and also sit under another user’s affiliate program. So if a website gives you a “CoinSpot code” and you receive no Bitcoin after your deposit, the most likely reason is that it was an affiliate code. CoinSpot’s own double-referral announcements remind existing users to share the referral and not the affiliate code for exactly this reason.
What $10 of Bitcoin is worth against CoinSpot’s fees
CoinSpot charges very different fees depending on how you buy. Its fee page lists:
- Markets (order book): 0.1% per trade
- Instant Buy and Sell: 1%, including stop-loss and take-profit orders placed there
- CoinSwap (coin to coin): 1%
- OTC desk for trades of $20,000 AUD or more: 0.1%
On the order book you are usually a taker or makerA taker fills an existing order immediately; a maker places an order that waits to be filled. CoinSpot charges 0.1% on Markets orders either way, which is why the Markets route is so much cheaper than Instant Buy. paying 0.1%, while the big green Instant Buy button costs ten times more. Here is how that changes the real value of the referral bonus on a first purchase.
| First purchase | Fee via Instant Buy (1%) | Fee via Markets (0.1%) | Net effect of the $10 bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| $200 | $2.00 | $0.20 | Ahead by $8 to $9.80 |
| $1,000 | $10.00 | $1.00 | Break-even on Instant Buy, $9 ahead on Markets |
| $5,000 | $50.00 | $5.00 | Bonus covers 20% of Instant Buy fees |
The lesson is simple. If you buy through Instant Buy, a single $1,000 purchase costs as much as the whole referral reward. Use the Markets page instead and the $10 stays almost entirely yours. If the difference between order types is new to you, our guide to maker and taker fees explains it in a few minutes.
Open Referral PageDeposit options and their costs
The referral reward triggers on an AUD deposit, so how you fund the account matters. CoinSpot lists PayID and direct deposits as free and instant with a low minimum. Card, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay deposits are also listed as free, while cash deposits cost 2.5%. AUD withdrawals to an Australian bank account are free regardless of amount.
For the referral, the safest route is a PayID or direct deposit from a bank account in your own name. That matches the “nominated bank account” wording in CoinSpot’s promotion notes and keeps the deposit free.
Verification and who can use a CoinSpot referral code
CoinSpot is an Australian exchange registered with AUSTRAC, and identity verification is mandatory before the referral reward can trigger. Individual accounts verify with standard ID; businesses, trusts and self-managed super funds have their own verification processes. Our guide to KYC for crypto bonuses covers what to prepare.
The referral is for new members only. Anyone who already has a CoinSpot account cannot claim the bonus, and CoinSpot does not allow duplicate accounts. Because the trigger is an Australian-dollar deposit, the program effectively serves Australian residents.
Forgot the code at registration?
Unlike many global exchanges, CoinSpot leaves a door open. Its help article says that if a friend forgot to include the referral code when registering and verifying, they should contact the Support Team with the code. That is a manual request, not a guaranteed backfill, and it is easier before the first deposit than after. Entering the code at sign-up remains the reliable route; our walkthrough on how to use a referral code has a checklist.
Double-referral promotions
Every so often CoinSpot raises the reward. It has run a Double Referral Weekend and a Valentine’s Day promotion where both people received $20 of Bitcoin instead of $10, under the same rules: new user, referral code, first AUD deposit. These promotions last a day or a weekend, so if you are not in a hurry to open an account, it can pay to wait for one. Outside those windows, $10 each is the standard.
How CoinSpot compares with other Australian options
| Exchange | New user bonus | Trigger | Ongoing discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| CoinSpot | $10 AUD of BTC | Verify + first AUD deposit | None |
| Swyftx | $10 AUD of BTC | Verify + deposit + trade within 30 days | None |
CoinSpot’s trigger is the lightest of the two because no trade is required. Swyftx publishes a clearer deadline. Neither offers a lasting fee discount, which is typical for Australian brokers and a contrast with global exchanges that share a referral kickback. What works
- Both sides get $10 AUD of Bitcoin, and the trigger is a first AUD deposit rather than a trading volume target.
- CoinSpot's help articles set no minimum deposit amount for the referral reward.
- PayID and direct bank deposits are free, so the bonus is not eaten by funding costs.
- If you forget the code at registration, CoinSpot support can add it if you contact them with the code.
Watch out for
- Choosing a referral code rules out the affiliate program for that account, and the two codes go in the same field.
- There is no fee discount: instant buys and swaps still cost 1%, which wipes out the $10 on a $1,000 instant purchase.
- CoinSpot's referral help articles do not state a deadline for the first deposit or a written lock-up policy.
- The bonus is paid in BTC, so its AUD value moves with the price after it is credited.
A CoinSpot referral code is worth using if you are opening a CoinSpot account anyway: one verified AUD deposit earns you $10 of Bitcoin with no volume target. Buy through the Markets at 0.1% rather than Instant Buy at 1% to keep that $10 meaningful. Do not expect more than the $10 unless CoinSpot is running a double-referral promotion.
