- Referrer reward
- Inviter: 18% of a direct member's margin funding and Borrow fees, 6% at the next level and 2% at the third, each fading by 0.5 percentage points every 30 days
- KYCKnow Your Customer: identity verification with an ID document and often a selfie, required by regulated platforms before bonuses or withdrawals.
- Intermediate verification is needed for Margin Funding and Bitfinex Borrow on newer accounts, so in practice the rebate requires KYC.

- Availability
- US persons are barred from Bitfinex. EEA residents cannot sign up with referral codes.
- How the bonus unlocksWhat you must do (deposit, trade a volume, hold funds) before the bonus becomes usable or withdrawable.
- No deposit or volume threshold. The rebate only arises if you pay margin funding fees (as a lender) or Bitfinex Borrow fees.
How to claim it, step by step
- Step 1
Open the Bitfinex sign-up page with the code
Use a referral link or press Sign Up on bitfinex.com. Double-check the address, since Bitfinex warns about look-alike phishing sites.
- Step 2
Fill in the form and add the referral code
Enter a username, email and password, choose your country of residence and paste the code into the referral field. The code only attaches at this point.
- Step 3
Confirm your email and set up 2FA
Verify the email with the 6-digit code or link, then link an authenticator app. Bitfinex blocks all account features until two-factor authentication is set.
- Step 4
Upgrade to Intermediate verification
Margin Funding and Bitfinex Borrow, the only products that generate the rebate, require Intermediate verification for accounts opened in recent years.
- Step 5
Offer funding or borrow and check the rebate
Once you pay funding or Borrow fees, the member rebate is credited automatically. Track it in the Reports section of your account.
Most pages offering a Bitfinex referral code still describe it as “6% off trading fees”. That was a fair summary for years. It no longer is. Bitfinex now charges no maker or taker fees on Spot, margin, derivatives, securities and OTC trading, and its help center lists only two kinds of fees that feed the referral program: margin funding fees and Bitfinex Borrow fees. A 6% rebate on a fee you never pay is worth nothing.
The code is not completely empty, though. If you lend money on Bitfinex’s funding market, you do pay a fee, and the rebate applies to it. This review works out what that is worth in real numbers, how quickly it fades, and why the inviter’s side looks much bigger than yours.

What a Bitfinex referral code gives you today
Bitfinex calls people who share codes “affiliates” and people who sign up with them “members”. The member side of the deal is short:
| Part of the offer | Who gets it | Rate | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Member rebate | You | 6% of your margin funding and Borrow fees | Fades to zero in about 12 months |
| Direct commission | The inviter | 18% of your funding and Borrow fees | Fades to zero in about 36 months |
| Second-level commission | The inviter’s inviter | 6% | About 12 months |
| Third-level commission | One more level up | 2% | About 4 months |
| Welcome bonus | Nobody | None | — |
There are no beginner tasks, no deposit vouchers and no trading bonus. The rebate is the whole offer. It is credited automatically, without anything to claim, in the same assets Bitfinex took as fees.
Why zero trading fees changed the math
Before the fee cut, the member rebate applied to trading too, and a code shaved a little off every order. Now the fees that matter are these:
- Margin funding fee. If you lend funds on the funding market, Bitfinex keeps 15% of your interest earnings, or 18% if you place the offer as a hidden order. That fee is what the rebate is calculated from.
- Bitfinex Borrow fee. Charged when you borrow through the Bitfinex Borrow product.
Borrowing for a margin position also costs interest, but that interest goes to the lender, not to Bitfinex. The rebate does not touch it. So if you only trade Spot, or trade with leverage without lending, a code saves you nothing at all. If that is you, the real Bitfinex discount is already built in, and you may want to compare OKX’s referral program or Kraken’s for exchanges where a code still affects trading costs.
The rebate shrinks every second
Bitfinex describes the decline precisely. The member rebate “will start at 6% and will reduce every second in a straight-line fashion”, so that at the end of each 30-day period it is 0.5 percentage points lower. After 30 days you get 5.5%, after 60 days 5%, and after roughly 360 days nothing.
| Period after sign-up | Rebate at the start | Rebate at the end | Average over the period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Days 1–30 | 6.0% | 5.5% | 5.75% |
| Days 91–120 | 4.5% | 4.0% | 4.25% |
| Days 181–210 | 3.0% | 2.5% | 2.75% |
| Days 331–360 | 0.5% | 0.0% | 0.25% |
Averaged across the whole year, you receive about 3% of your funding fees back. Calling that a “6% discount” overstates it by half.
Worked example: lending 10,000 USDt for a year
Funding rates move constantly, so take this as an illustration with an assumed rate, not a forecast. Suppose you keep 10,000 USDt lent out at an average of 0.03% per day, about 11% a year.
- Gross interest: 10,000 × 0.03% = 3.00 USDt per day, or about 90 USDt per 30 days.
- Bitfinex fee at 15%: 0.45 USDt per day, or 13.50 USDt per 30 days.
- Member rebate in the first 30 days at an average of 5.75%: about 0.78 USDt.
- Member rebate over the full year, adding up the falling monthly averages: about 4.86 USDt.
So the code is worth roughly 5 USDt per 10,000 USDt lent for a year at that rate. Scale it up and it starts to count: a lender with 200,000 USDt in the book would get about 97 USDt back over the year. For anyone lending less than a few thousand dollars, it rounds to almost nothing, but it also costs nothing.
Open Referral PageWhat the inviter earns, and why the codes are everywhere
The inviter side explains why so many sites push Bitfinex codes. Affiliates earn from up to three levels of their network: 18% of fees from direct members, 6% from the next level and 2% from the level after that. These rates decline at the same 0.5 points per 30 days, so the direct share lasts about three years. You can read how such chains work in our guide to multi-level referral systems.
Affiliates can also earn multipliers. If the affiliate is verified to Basic Plus or higher they get a 1.2x boost, and the same applies to each member who verifies at that level. If a member holds an average of more than 500 USDt worth of LEO tokens over 30 days, a further multiplier of 1.1x, 1.2x or 1.5x applies at the 500, 5,000 and 50,000 USDt thresholds. None of this changes your 6% rebate. It only increases what the inviter collects from your account.
Who can and cannot use a Bitfinex referral code
Bitfinex is closed to US persons, including US citizens, permanent residents and US passport holders living abroad. Its US Person FAQ states that such users are strictly prohibited from opening an account.
The second restriction is newer and catches European readers. Bitfinex’s affiliate article notes that, due to new regulatory requirements, EEA residents can no longer sign up using referral codes or have others sign up with theirs. An EEA resident can still open an account where Bitfinex serves them, but without a code. If you are in the EU, see our exchange referral reviews for programs that still accept you.
The affiliate rules also exclude accounts owned or controlled by the inviter or their household, and anyone who already has a Bitfinex account. You cannot attach a code to an existing account, and you cannot refer yourself with a second one.
KYC: the rebate needs Intermediate verification
Bitfinex has four verification levels: Basic Access, Basic Plus, Intermediate and Full. Basic Access is effectively view-only. For accounts created in recent years, Margin Funding and Bitfinex Borrow are available only from Intermediate verification upward. Because those are the only products that generate the rebate, a member who never upgrades to Intermediate will never receive a cent of it.
This is a real cost in time. Intermediate verification asks for more documentation than a basic exchange check, so budget for it before counting on the rebate. Our guide to KYC for crypto bonuses explains what each level usually involves.
How Bitfinex pays rebates and commissions
Rebates and affiliate payments are credited in the cryptocurrencies Bitfinex collected as the underlying fees, so one payout may arrive in several assets. There are two exceptions: payments are not made in LEO, and fees collected in fiat or restricted tokens are converted to BTC or USDt. Because the funds land in your account balance, they are withdrawable like any other deposit, subject to normal withdrawal fees. Disputes over a payment must be raised within 30 days of receiving it.
Is a Bitfinex referral code worth it for you?
| Your profile | What the code does | Our take |
|---|---|---|
| Spot or derivatives trader | Nothing, trading is already fee-free | Use a code or not, it makes no difference |
| Margin funding lender | About 3% of your funding fees back over a year | Worth adding, small but real |
| Bitfinex Borrow user | 6% fading rebate on Borrow fees | Minor saving |
| EEA or US resident | Not available | Skip it |
The honest summary: a Bitfinex referral code is a small courtesy for lenders and irrelevant for traders. If you want a code that changes your trading costs, look at programs that publish an invitee kickback, and check our explainer on how referral kickbacks work before comparing them.
What works
- Bitfinex publishes the exact member rebate (6%) and how fast it declines (0.5 percentage points per 30 days).
- The rebate is paid in the same crypto Bitfinex collected as the fee, so it is withdrawable balance, not a voucher.
- Spot, margin and derivatives trading already carry no maker or taker fees, so you lose nothing by skipping a code as a trader.
- The referral field is a single optional box on the standard sign-up form, with no tasks to complete.
Watch out for
- The 6% rebate applies only to margin funding and Bitfinex Borrow fees, not to trading.
- The rebate falls by 0.5 percentage points every 30 days and reaches zero after about 12 months.
- There is no welcome bonus, deposit reward or voucher for new members.
- EEA residents can no longer sign up with a referral code, and US persons cannot open an account at all.
- Margin Funding requires Intermediate verification, a heavier KYC level than basic trading.
A Bitfinex referral code only makes sense if you plan to lend on the margin funding market or use Bitfinex Borrow, because those are the only fees it touches. For a lender, the 6% rebate is worth a few dollars per 10,000 USDt over a year. For anyone who only trades, Bitfinex's zero trading fees already beat any code, so do not choose the exchange for its referral program.
